Members Soirée — Friday 31 July Bastille Day Celebration

Alliance Française de Ballarat celebrated France's National Day, le 14 juillet, with a delightful July Soirée that brought members and guests together for an evening of French cuisine, culture, and conviviality.

Guests enjoyed a French-inspired menu of mixed canapés, slow-cooked lamb served with ratatouille, French-style potatoes and beans, followed by a choice of cheesecake or strawberry charlotte for dessert. The festive atmosphere was enhanced by many attendees embracing the theme with à la française attire.

The highlight of the evening was an engaging illustrated presentation by Alliance member Edward Coleridge, who shared the story of his barge cruise along the picturesque Canal du Nivernais. 

Through his photographs and personal reflections, guests were transported to la France profonde, discovering the peaceful waterways, charming villages, and enduring beauty of rural France.

The evening was a wonderful celebration of French heritage, offering members the opportunity to enjoy good food, engaging conversation, and an inspiring glimpse into one of France's most beautiful regions.

With a distinguished career performing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria across opera, ballet, and orchestral productions, Susan brings a wealth of experience and passion to the stage. She is also the current Concertmaster of the Zelman Memorial Symphony Orchestra.
